http://theovenreinvented.com/ a website advertising a new oven techology that allows you to virtually cook different kinds of dishes-all the necessary information is available-you can compare the time the new oven takes compared to the conventional time-depending on what dish you decide to cook, it automatically highlights the features in charge and that are needed to make that dish-you also have the option to see the finished dish-there is also a human chef interacting with you.I think this is a very successful website, because it functions the same way as the product it is advertising. The websites is as simple to use as the oven itself. The link between product an website is very clear and well made. If you know how to use the website to virtually cook a dish, you also know how to do the same on the actual oven.Really well done in delivering that message of simplicity to the user. After playing around on the website, it really made me want to purchase the product :)

Good Link 2 — Mike

For my good link this week I chose http://neckerisland.com. I chose this website because for the target audience, the rich and famous, this is a pretty good site. The video at the beginning shows that they are all focused on you and that when you come to our island that you will never have to do any work and we will be at you’re beck and call. It has pretty easy functionality. It looks very clean, crisp, and beautiful. The navigation is very easy and folds up and down. It is very picture oriented and is not very text oriented which is good for the purpose of the site. They explain the activities and services on the island by showing you through pictures with very minimal text. They are trying to convince the viewer that this is going to be the most relaxing, comfortable, fun, and amazing vacation they have ever been on while promoting class, quality, and the best experience. Most people if they are looking at this site have a lot of money and don’t really care too much about the details of cost and what many people worry about when booking a hotel.

For my good link I chose a simple website involving a clothing line which I’m sure everyone has heard of “Hollister” Why? Well when it comes to shopping online the audience obviously needs some simple navigation, and I don’t know about anyone else but I know when I shop for clothes online, I obviously know I’m a guy so I’m going to look up clothes in the guy section, and I want a button up shirt so I’m going to click on button ups. This website is pretty straight forward to that point, and any other clothing website I’m sure is the same way.

Martin + Osa is a division of American Eagle, Inc. brands. Named after the modern day husband and wife explorers, Martin & Osa Johnson, the brand is devoted to creating a personal, exclusive shopping experience on a broad scale for modern, middle-aged Americans with a contemporary lifestyle. The website illustrates harmony between technology and audience. The site isn’t overwhelmingly flashy but the index page is appealing … a bar at the top of the page has a rotating list of reasons why shopping at Martin + Osa is a superior experience (free returns, etc.) The content is very well organized, and mouseovers highlight related categories, which makes the content appear more succinct and easier to navigate. One can shop “a la carte” or by outfit. The basic, simple technology on the website is right in line with its target audience.

http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/HomePageI thought that this was a good website because it had a lot of technology incorporated into it,but the site doesn’t seem overwhelming.  The audience needs to be able to interact with this site in a complex way to book a train ticket, but by breaking down a complex task into simpler, smaller steps, the task becomes more managable.

·      This site is really fun, allowing the users to click on the individual letters and then plays a flash animation of an animal being created out of these letters.  It is very simple, and would especially be good for small children because of its simplicity.

·      Before clicking on each individual letter, running your mouse over each letter will cause it to spin and make a sound, adding another level of play to the site.  This feature is also helpful for small children who may have not mastered hand-eye coordination yet.

·      One major drawback to this site is the opening question, flash or no flash? Small children, who this site is designed for, would not know which to click on to enter the site.

Good Link

http://www.loukotka.com/I think this is a good website because it gets down to the point of what he is. I think most personal portfolio sites are pretty nice, but it usually misses design aesthetic and I believe this has a nice balance with design and profession of being a freelance designer.Observations on Site Design Observations on Web Design
